New Chapter 1 (in Stixx’s POV), 99¢ pre-order, and a sneak peek at what’s coming

“Benjamin,” I say, “I’m Stixx. Earned that name when the River Reapers MC patched me in ‘cuz I play with matches. I gave myself an X for every building I burned down to save someone from a rapist.” I lean into him so that we’re close enough to kiss. “I don’t give myself Xs anymore. It’d just get outta control. But I still burn down buildings to cleanse the world from people like you. So I’m gonna ask you again, Benjamin. What’s the alcohol content in your gel?”

I tip the lighter toward his hair, let it catch just enough to roll over his gelmet in a whoosh. The sour stench of burning hair stings my nostrils. He screams, not that anybody out on the floor can hear him, and a dark wet stain blooms across the crotch of his pants.

“You’re just full of piss, aren’t you?” I flush the urinal, dipping his head to extinguish him. His skull cracks into the porcelain. The weak flow of water flushes his waste, but barely douses his hair. Flames engulf his scalp, the smell of roasting skin and sweat wrinkling my nose. I drop him onto the floor, stepping back so I don’t catch. Mark, the MC’s treasurer, won’t be happy if I rack up an emergency services bill, never mind all the damage that comes with fire: ash, smoke, water. While Benjamin writhes on the floor screaming, I check the bathroom for an extinguisher. There isn’t even a sprinkler.

That’s a code violation.

“Did you inspect this building?” I ask him, but he’s not moving. “Benjamin?” I nudge him with the toe of my boot. Right on cue, my fire runs out of gel fuel and blinks out. Benjamin doesn’t move.

I check the pulse in his wrist, his neck too raw to find one. There’s none.

“Whoopsie.”

Forget Mark, now I’ve gotta deal with Ravage, the president of the MC.

The door starts to open, music blasting in, and I slam it shut with my boot, throwing the lock.

“Out of order!” I shout, texting on my phone with one thumb. My other hand tugs at my hair. I didn’t think this through. The way he ran his mouth about Lucy, all I saw was red.

Killing a man in the Mermaid during broad daylight could get me kicked out of the club—or worse.

Arsonist’s Lullaby release update

August flew by! I’m calling this my whirlwind summer because doing three signings was not on my bingo card for 2026! Signings look a lot different now: a cooler full of Pedialyte, a whole bunch of meds and timers, and sometimes two assistants. Even with all my dunnage, it was pretty awesome. In case you missed it, I signed at Barnes & Noble in Cheshire, Mini CT BookishCon in Torrington, and Dee’s Blind Dates’ Book Swap & DIY Totes Workshop in Wallingford. The River Reapers are taking over the state!

With all this extra activity, I’m a little run down. I anticipated my lupus flaring, so I’m pacing myself, and my doctors are taking really good care of me. A flare is still a flare, though. To give myself enough time to rest, recover, and finish up my revisions so that Arsonist’s Lullaby is its very best, I’ve pushed back the release date to October 25th.

If you already pre-ordered on Kindle or Kobo, you received an email notifying you about the date change.

He falls first so hard, he can’t even speak to her

I don’t mean to snoop, but with Lucy sitting at the bar, I tower over her. Her phone’s right under my nose. There’s a shot of her napping with Olivia’s orange cat asleep on her head. I stifle a smile. She holds up the phone for Olivia to see. “When did you take this?” she laughs.

Hanging around would be weird, so I don’t hear her answer. In another life, I’d stay, make a joke about how the cat feels right at home. She’d swat at me, her nose crinkling and the corners of her mouth lifting.

I’ll never get another opener like that again.

One of the biggest changes I made during dev edits was writing a whole new Chapter 1, in Stixx’s POV instead of Lucy’s (her opener is now Chapter 2, and you can unlock that soon). This new chapter is live on my author website!

A wish for my 38th birthday

It’s my birthday tomorrow! Right now, Arsonist’s Lullaby has 5 Kindle pre-orders, 2 on Kobo, and 38 ARC applications. I’d love it if we made it to 25 ebook pre-orders and 50 ARC apps by my birthday!

I’ve got a fun pre-order campaign dropping soon, and all of these numbers count toward unlocking goodies… including some more chapters.

Last call for BOGO

This is your last chance to buy one, get one 50% off the River Reapers MC series on Kobo. This sale also applies to my Stagwood Falls: Love in Ink series. I don’t know when my publisher will run another sale like this, so definitely scoop them up!

A one night stand shifts into a wild ride when the president of the MC’s son and VP’s daughter inherit the sins of their fathers.

It’s gonna be lit. 🔥

BOGO (for real), cover reveal, & surprise signing!

Dark romance with a body count
🌻 August 2026 🌻

Hello lovelies!

I’ve been busy this summer! I’ve also been super sick. My neurologist increased a few of my meds, my rheumatologist put me on a longer, higher dose steroid taper, and I’m still flaring. Lupus is just a series of fires to be put out… and some of them are like those underground coal mine fires, burning forever. My dysautonomia’s like that, lately at least.

The horrors persist… but so do I. 😈

Even though things are pretty crazy between the pages here, I’m having the time of my life! The River Reapers MC series is growing in both readership and books on the shelves (cover reveal below). I’m back to doing signings (we just added a surprise August event). My TBR is exploding with delicious dark romance, and I’m connecting with awesome readers and authors in the community.

It’s so good to be back! I didn’t realize how badly I needed to reclaim this part of me. Even though writing and signings take a lot out of me physically and mentally, they fuel my soul. I feel more like me. And I feel like maybe, if I hang onto this dream and let it drive, it’ll take as good care of me as I take of it.

Arsonist’s Lullaby cover reveal

You’ve seen the Arsonist’s Lullaby cover, right? No?! Have I failed you?

You do realize this is Lucy and Stixx’s book, right?

This novella occurs during and after the events of A Fatal Prospect while also existing as its own contained story.

😍 Look at her!! 😍

She’s burnt out, and I’ll give her spark back if it kills her.

Because I’m flaring, I’ve pushed back the release date for Arsonist’s Lullaby into October. I’m focusing on taking the best care of me while making this the best book it can be (and it’s paying off, AL might be my favorite in the series so far).

Paperback preorder campaign announcement coming shortly!

Recap: Barnes & Noble | Cheshire, CT

I had so much fun at B&N Cheshire in July! Darlene, Alyssa, Ramona, Corey, and the rest of the staff were wonderful. Corey created signature drinks based on our books, which unlocked an author achievement for me. There are some really cute pics and a “Cheers!” video between all our Instagram pages. Reader Heather stopped in with her River Reapers set and an old friend (The Stairs Between Us) for me to sign. She told me she’s glad I’m still writing (I had to go cry some happy tears real quick). I made some new friends in J.L. Polanco, Kaye Kennedy, and Emelia Rose, and I can’t wait to hang with them at future events (hint, hint, read on)!

Recap: Mini CT BookishCon | Torrington, CT

Mini CT BookishCon might be mini in name but its debut was phenomenal! Organizer Melissa of Le Fleur & Fables Booktique and her team set a warm, happy vibe that took us all to book heaven. There was a line outside the doors before they opened, and the first few hours were nonstop busy. I’m so grateful for all the readers who came by my table, whether to meet my psycho bikers or take ’em home. I’m also really happy I got to see J.L. Polanco again, Yolanda Olson, and meet Ash of Velvet Vows dark romance book store.

I got to meet so many lovely people, including my longtime beta reader and encourager of my mischief, Katy! The day still feels like a dream, the absolute best kind.

I came across this event after my best friend Sandy of 22 years suddenly died. I hadn’t logged into Instagram in months, but that night something was urging me to. Top of my feed was a flyer for the event. It felt like a note from Sandy: “You are not giving up!!”

My girl was a mother and educator, and she chased her dreams until her very last breath. She never even got to hold her Master’s in Special Ed that she’d just completed. (My younger goddaughter walked the stage for her in May.) Nothing about losing her makes any sense, except that she believed in and loved all of us with all her heart. It was a reminder that I needed to get back to me, and hanging onto my dream would take me there. And it did.

My ride or die, Mike. We’ve seen each other’s darkest parts, through our darkest days, and dancing with him in the light makes it all worth it.

Next: Book Swap Social | Wallingford, CT

If you missed me, no worries! Dee’s Blind Book Dates invited me to sign with Kaye Kennedy at the 2nd Book Swap Social, Book Signing, & DIY Tote Bag Workshop. That’s right: the biker daddies and the firefighter daddies are coming to Wallingford!

Thursday, August 20th
📍 Wallingford Marketplace at Words on Wood
144 Center Street
Wallingford, CT
5 to 8 pm

Stay tuned, because I may or may not be announcing some fall events soon. 😉

BOGO & Fill Your Kobo

Kobo put an awesome promo together for their Kobo Originals authors. All through August, buy one get one FREE! This promo stacks, too, so you can scoop up two of my series for half price.

A one night stand shifts into a wild ride…

He ruined her life, so now she’ll end his.

He started a war. She’ll finish it.

She sent him to prison and ran. Now he’s out, and he’s coming for her.

She’s burnt out, and I’ll get her spark back if it kills her.

I’ve had a lovely time writing this small town tattoo shop romance for Kobo Originals. Binge the Stagwood Falls: Love in Ink series before the final book in the trilogy releases.

She covers bad tattoos, but she can’t coverup her attraction to the man out to steal her shop.

The only thing more permanent than a tattoo is a broken heart.

Currently Reading: Haunting Adeline

Did you hear that indie dark romance author H.D. Carlton’s Haunting Adeline is being adapted into a movie? I’m so excited! All the haters accomplished was making her a bestseller again, because like many other readers, it sent the book to the top of my TBR. I wish I’d read this book sooner! While reading Haunting Adeline, I’ve encountered a couple of my triggers and I’m really proud to say that I read every word of those scenes and enjoyed them. It feels fucking incredible to reclaim these things. Dark romance does that!

I’m not a mental health professional, and this isn’t medical advice, nor am I suggesting that fiction is a replacement for trauma therapy. You and your providers make the best decision for your wellbeing. I’m just really proud of this dark horse genre that makes some people really mad, meanwhile is so beloved and championed by some of the most wonderful people.

Thank you so much for all your support. For a long time, I feared I’d never make it back to writing, publishing, being with readers and authors in bookish spaces—yet here I am. Thank you for being here with me.

Lots of exciting things coming. In the meantime, happy reading!

xoxo,

Where did the River Reapers MC name come from?

I grew up in Waterbury, a small city nestled in the Naugatuck Valley of Connecticut. One of our landmarks here is the Naugatuck River, infamous for nothing good.

In 1955, the river flooded, killing 47 people and resulting in millions of dollars of damage. My great-grandmother—my Biz Noni—used to tell me stories from that time, about how people stood on top of houses and factories while waiting for help. Thankfully my family’s home was safe, being on the top of a hill. But South Main Street—which is on lower ground and runs right along the river—completely flooded over. If you look closely, you can still see watermarks on some buildings.

These days we have flood control structures throughout the area, so it’s hard to imagine losing everything to nature’s wrath. But now we have a problem that is much more sinister.

Along the river are many factories. Some of those factories illegally dump their sewage and waste into the river. Growing up in the South End of Waterbury (which was built around the river), I can remember many, many days when the air smelled of sewage. We always joked that we knew we were home when the smell hit.

The river cleanup has been an ongoing process, mostly because people keep dumping into it. It seems like there is never, ever justice, and so the river is known for being dirty. We also used to joke that you should never fish in that river, and there were even rumors of mutants.

Of course, there aren’t any mutants, but that stuck with me. When I started fleshing out the River Reapers MC series, I needed a name for my club. Immediately the image of the Sludge Specter popped into my head. It’s a sludge-covered reaper that haunts the river, its eyes glowing with a thirst for revenge.

It’s also the patch that very few RRMC members earn when they prove they’ll do anything for the club—anything.

I decided to set the series in Naugatuck, another small city. Its city line hugs the end of the South End neighborhood. Like Waterbury, Naugatuck used to be a thriving industrial hub. Naugy just did a better job of reinventing itself. You can walk along Church Street, which is a super cute “main street” type stretch that hugs the Green and is lined with some great shops that took over vintage buildings.

There are some MCs in Naugy, but they aren’t quite as notorious as the ones in Waterbury, so it made sense to set my story there. (The first rule of writing MC romance is to never write about real life MCs, especially not one-percenters.) It also amused me greatly to stick a strip club in a town that would probably never approve one in real life.

Even though I grew up right next door to Naugy, I wasn’t too familiar with the area and had to do a lot of research, which I’ll talk about in another post, if you want me to.

And so the River Reapers MC was born, burying bodies along the Naugatuck River since sometime in the mid-Nineties. 😏
